    Rays vs. Guardians: American League Battle Tied 1–1

    The American League Championship Series is shaping up differently.

    Cleveland opened the ALCS with a 7–3 victory over Tampa Bay, but the Rays responded with a 3–1 win in Game 2 on Tuesday.

    Tampa Bay received a strong pitching performance from Freddy Peralta, who delivered six scoreless innings to help even the series.

    Bills at Rams: Monday Night Football

    Buffalo and Los Angeles close the night at 8:15 p.m. ET. The Bills are looking to respond after their first loss of the season. The Rams come in after a comeback win and will try to keep that momentum at home. Josh Allen and Matthew Stafford headline the matchup, but the game could turn on which team controls the pace and protects the ball. 

    From the first pitch in Milwaukee to the final whistle at SoFi Stadium, Monday has plenty for fans to follow. The Dodgers are chasing an equalizer, the Guardians and Rays are starting a new series, and the Bills and Rams get the primetime stage.

    The Rangers have opened the season at 3-1-0 and enter tonight riding a three-game winning streak. After being shut out by Boston in their opener, New York responded with wins over Tampa Bay, Detroit and Utah.

    Their early success has started in goal.

    Igor Shesterkin was named the NHL’s First Star of the Week after another strong stretch between the pipes, and the Rangers have allowed goals in only four of the first 12 periods they have played this season. Their penalty kill has also started 11-for-12.

    Across town, the Islanders are coming off their best performance of the young season.

    New York defeated the New Jersey Devils 6-0 on Saturday, with six different players finding the net and Ilya Sorokin stopping all 37 shots he faced.

    Then there is the rivalry itself.

    The Islanders dominated the season series last year, winning all four meetings against the Rangers. They outscored the Blueshirts 14-3 across those games and opened last season’s matchup at Madison Square Garden with a 5-0 shutout.

    That history gives tonight’s game an extra edge.

    The Rangers are trying to show that their strong start represents something different this season. The Islanders have an opportunity to prove last year’s dominance in the rivalry was no fluke.

    With Shesterkin and Sorokin capable of taking over a game, a 5.5-goal total makes sense for a matchup that could tighten up quickly.

    Early-season points matter.

    But in New York, bragging rights matter too.

    The Dodgers took Game 1 before Atlanta answered with a 3-2 win in Game 2, sending the series to Truist Park tied at one game apiece.

    Yoshinobu Yamamoto is scheduled to start for Los Angeles against Chris Sale for Atlanta, giving Game 3 one of the best pitching matchups of the postseason so far.

    Yamamoto has been especially difficult away from Los Angeles, while Sale has already shown this season that he can shut down the Dodgers’ lineup.

    The betting market reflects how close this matchup is. Atlanta enters around -110 on the moneyline with Los Angeles at -108. The total sits at 6.0 runs.

    For both teams, this is the game that can change the shape of the series. A win puts either club one victory away from the NLCS.

    Brewers vs. Padres: San Diego Faces Elimination

    The pressure is much heavier in San Diego.

    Milwaukee carries a 2-0 series lead into Game 3 after winning the opening two games at home. The Brewers can close out the series tonight and become one of the first teams through to the league championship round.

    San Diego will turn to Nick Pivetta with its season on the line, while Dustin May is expected to start for Milwaukee.

    The Padres are slight home favourites at approximately -133, with Milwaukee around +113. The total is set at 7.0 runs.

    San Diego was one of baseball’s better home teams during the regular season, but none of that matters if the offence cannot produce tonight.

    Two games. One tied series. One elimination game.

    This is where October starts getting serious.

    Bijan Robinson gives Atlanta its starting point

    The Falcons arrive after beating Green Bay 35–14 for their first win of the season. Bijan Robinson led the way with 194 rushing yards and two touchdowns, giving Atlanta the kind of ground attack that can take pressure off quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

    New Orleans’ first priority should be limiting Robinson before he reaches the second level. Against Green Bay, Atlanta found success running outside zone, forcing defenders to maintain their assignments and tackle in space. The Saints cannot afford to let those runs become the foundation of another comfortable offensive night.

    The tactical implication is straightforward: if Robinson keeps producing on early downs, Atlanta can stay patient. Longer third downs would put more responsibility on Penix to extend possessions through the air.

    New Orleans has the passing game to answer

    Tyler Shough and Chris Olave give the Saints a way to challenge Atlanta’s defense. Shough enters the matchup with 917 passing yards and eight touchdown passes, alongside three interceptions. New Orleans has the production to threaten the Falcons, but protecting possessions will matter in a game between evenly placed division rivals.

    From a matchup perspective, an early Saints lead could change Atlanta’s approach and reduce how often the Falcons can lean on Robinson. That makes New Orleans’ opening possessions especially interesting.

    More than rivalry bragging rights

    A win brings either team back to 2–2. A loss leaves another week of questions about consistency.

    For Atlanta, the test is backing up the Green Bay performance. For New Orleans, it is turning home-field advantage into a result against a familiar opponent that had its number last season.

    The Boston Red Sox have reached the first win-or-go-home game of their postseason.

    Boston returns to Yankee Stadium tonight for Game 2 of the American League Wild Card Series after the New York Yankees opened the best-of-three matchup with a convincing 9–0 victory Tuesday night.

    First pitch is scheduled for 8:00 PM ET in the Bronx.

    For New York, the equation is simple: win and advance.

    For Boston, there is no tomorrow without a victory tonight.

    Yankees Take Control in Game 1

    Game 1 quickly turned into a difficult night for Boston.

    Yankees starter Cam Schlittler kept the Red Sox offense under control, while Ben Rice delivered the biggest performance at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two home runs and six RBIs.

    Boston managed only three hits in the 9–0 loss, continuing an offensive slump that followed the club into the postseason. The Red Sox finished September last in MLB in runs per game, batting average and OPS.

    That offense now needs to find an answer against Max Fried.

    Sonny Gray Gets the Ball for Boston

    If Boston is going to extend its season, Sonny Gray gives the club a legitimate opportunity.

    The 36-year-old right-hander finished the regular season 18–5 with a 2.72 ERA and 20 quality starts.

    More importantly, Gray pitched extremely well against the Yankees this year. He posted a 1.98 ERA over 13⅔ innings against New York, with Boston winning both of his starts.

    In an elimination game, Boston will need another performance in that range.

    Max Fried Stands in Boston’s Way

    New York will answer with Max Fried, creating an excellent pitching matchup.

    Fried finished the season with a 2.80 ERA and has historically been difficult for Boston to solve. His career regular-season ERA against the Red Sox sits at 1.93.

    That continued this season, when Fried held Boston to just one run across 11⅔ innings in two starts.

    The matchup puts even more pressure on a Red Sox lineup that struggled badly in Game 1.

    Boston Without Roman Anthony in the Starting Lineup

    Boston will also have to attempt the comeback without Roman Anthony in the starting lineup.

    Anthony left Game 1 after experiencing discomfort in his right hand and wrist and was left out of Boston’s starting lineup for Game 2.

    That removes another important bat from a lineup already searching for offense.

    The Yankees have a significant absence of their own. Aaron Judge is not on New York’s Wild Card Series roster as he continues his recovery from a right soleus strain.

    Red Sox vs. Yankees Game 2 Odds

    The Yankees enter tonight as the betting favorite.

    DraftKings odds reported Wednesday afternoon had New York at -136 on the moneyline and Boston at +113. The Yankees were -1.5 (+162) on the run line, while Boston was +1.5 (-198).

    The total was set at 6.5 runs, with the Over at -122 and Under at +101. Odds can move leading into first pitch.

    Considering Gray and Fried are taking the mound, the pitching matchup could look very different from Tuesday’s 9–0 result.

    One Game From October or One Game From Home

    The pressure is entirely on Boston now.

    Since MLB introduced the best-of-three Wild Card Series, teams winning Game 1 have gone on to win 21 of the first 24 series, including 17 sweeps.

    The Red Sox have the starter capable of giving them a chance to change that tonight.

    But eventually, their offense has to respond.

    For the Yankees, another win sends them into the American League Division Series.

    For Boston, the season comes down to nine innings in the Bronx.
